Our long-term ambition is to equip our communities with the knowledge and resources to build a better future. We do so by engaging in meaningful partnerships with local and global organisations. We are increasing our social engagement through additional partnerships and active sponsorships and are working towards securing 100 per cent of our purchased energy from renewable resources, where feasible, by the end of 2023.
Continue to support and resource community projects. Procure all our electricity from renewable sources, where feasible, by the end of 2023.
Contributing to our local communities
We believe in being an active participant in the local communities in which we operate. We are committed to giving back to our surroundings through sponsorships as well as by sharing our knowledge and experience within our areas of technology, integrity, great experiences and diversity. Examples of our ongoing, multi-year initiatives are Team Talk, Hemmaklubben, and Go Racing Green. In addition, we continuously make charitable donations to organisations such as Au Coeur du Football (equipment supplies), Swedish Elite Football, HANDS and Gamble Aware. As well as funding projects, our employees are encouraged to support their local community by volunteer three days a year in local projects.
Helping combat climate change
We aim to operate in an environmentally responsible manner and to ensure the business can thrive in a circular, water-constrained, low-carbon economy, if required. As a company operating solely online, our dominant material environmental topic is energy, and by the end of 2023 we aim to procure all our electricity from renewable sources, where feasible. At the end of 2022, 31 % per cent of our purchased electricity came from renewable sources. We offset all remaining carbon emissions using an accredited third party and through projects that meet the requirements of the Verified Carbon Standard.
We manage environmental projects in line with best practice, allocating funding to activities that create positive environmental impacts. We track resource management, such as energy, to formal targets in line with internationally recognised frameworks, such as CDP (score of B maintained). Our response to climate risk applies the precautionary principle and is informed by EU Taxonomy Regulations and the Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) framework. While our operations continue to grow, we are committed to promoting sound greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction practices and environmental awareness in our business. We know that businesses have an important role to play in fighting climate change and we are committed to doing our bit for the planet. An important part of this work is that we have set validated Science-Based Targets to reduce our emissions.
Energy and carbon footprint
We always strive to use our resources efficiently and reduce our carbon footprint. To measure progress and to be compliant with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Corporate Standard, we used a third party to calculate the Group’s CO2e emissions. All carbon footprints are expressed as an absolute amount in tCO2e.
|Absolute carbon emissons||2022/21||2020/21||2019/20|
|CO2 emissions (tonnes CO2e)|
|Scope 1 - Operation of site facilities||97.2||52.5||44.3|
|Scope 2 - Grid electricity purchased||1,226.5||1,041.3||1,465.4|
|Scope 3 - Business travel, waste, commute, purchase and transport of IT||5,591.4||2,112.4||2,752.6|
|Tonnes CO2e emissions per employee||3.5||1.8||2.7|
|Tonnes CO2e emissions per revenue GBP million||6.5||2.55||3.8|
In 2022, there has been a focus to increase data quality through calculations based on supplier-specific data to a greater extent and less estimates to get a bigger coverage of our emissions. This means that the emissions for previous years have been recalculated as well, allowing for better comparison.
With our validated Science Based Target, our targets are calculated and measured according to the market-based approach with 2019 as baseline. Our climate data includes the operations in site facilities, electricity purchased, business travel, waste, commute for our employees and purchase and transport of IT equipment.
