Once again, the ECJ has questioned the gambling monopolies

Tue, 06 Mar, 2007 11:31 CET

The European Court of Justice has today once again ruled in the “Placanica” case that the Member States’ gambling monopolies are violating the fundamental principles of free movement.

“We are very pleased to see that the Court has taken a firm stance, and in this way has declared that Member States with monopoly legislation are discriminating against private gambling operators.”

”Unibet welcomes this judgement which will accelerate the break up of the existing monopolies in Europe. We are now all looking forward to the creation of a new, modern gambling market within EU. The time for monopolies is over,” says Petter Nylander, CEO Unibet.
