Kindred aligns its energy targets with the Paris Agreement

Thu, 08 Oct, 2020 11:30 CET

Kindred Group continues its efforts to reach the target set in 2018 to source 100 per cent renewable electricity by 2023 where we can. Kindred has now aligned its energy targets with the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting temperature rise to below 2°C and has an ambition to limit it further to below 1.5°C.

Kindred Group, an all digital company and thus operating solely online, has aligned its energy targets to the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global temperature rise to below 2ºC above pre-industrial levels and pursue efforts to limit it further to 1.5ºC. Targets adopted by companies to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are considered science-based if they are in line with what the latest climate science says is necessary to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement.

By 2023, Kindred aim to reduce 85 per cent of absolute scope 1 and 2 emissions (market-based) from a 2018 base year, by purchasing certificates of origin. They also aim to reduce 30 per cent of business travels by 2023, also from a 2018 base year. This is considered  to be science-based targets in line with IPCC 1.5ºC and IPCC 2ºC ambition levels.

“We know that businesses have an important role to play in fighting climate change and we are committed to doing our bit for the planet. Our science-based carbon-reduction targets focus on cutting carbon emissions across our data centres, offices and business travel activities. They are also linked to our 2023 ambition to procure 100 per cent of our electricity from renewable sources of energy where we can”, says Henrik Tjärnström, CEO Kindred Group.

To be compliant with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Corporate Standard, Kindred Group report annual emissions and their environmental impact through the Carbon Discloure Project and the annual Sustainability Report.
